Problem:
Integrating a small automotive component into another assembly cell led to cycle time increases and downtime
Role:
Develop a pneumatic tooling system that integrates this component directly into the assembly line without interfering with the current manufacturing process
Constraints:
Tooling must be retractable to avoid interfering with prior weld access
3 degrees of adjustability
Fit within existing tooling gaps
Successful integration of tooling within assembly line CAD model
Elimination of air toggle presses, sensors, and locating systems from prior cell
Projected saving of $103,802
I was given this task with less than 2 weeks remaining during my first co-op term. However, I saw the impact that this project could have and appreciated the ownership that I was given, so I pushed on and got a functional design ready before my term was over.
